What is Ganivo? What is a Composite Square Ganivo Manhole Cover?

Ganivo is a term derived from French, written as "Caniveau," and when it was adopted in Vietnam, it was pronounced as Ca-ni-vồ or Ga-ni-vô. Ganivo refers to what we now commonly call a manhole. However, today, this term is mostly used for small-sized manholes. Therefore, when referring to a Ganivo cover, it means the small-sized manhole covers. Its purpose is to allow soil, sand, and waste to settle down, preventing clogging in the drainage system.

In simple terms, Ganivo (manhole) is an essential part of the drainage system. A Ganivo manhole is usually lower than the surrounding surface to allow sand and waste to sink as they flow, preventing blockages. The cleaning personnel only need to lift the Ganivo cover and clean it, rather than having to clean the entire drainage pipe.

Functions of Ganivo & Composite Square Ganivo Manhole Cover

Besides the primary function of trapping sand, dirt, and waste to prevent drainage blockages, Ganivo also serves other purposes such as: collecting water, altering slopes, or controlling the flow; serving as a point for installing control valves; or installing monitoring meters.
